FAA Flight Analysis

MITRE

I began working with the FAA through MITRE in spring 2023. Partnering with the FAA I have worked on several projects analyzing airspaces using historical air traffic data. These analyses help FAA and private companies determine if UAM and drone activity is feasible in a proposed operational area.

Throughout these analyses, we pull data from a large transportation database using Spark, store files in the Hadoop File System, and perform analytics in Jupyter Lab. Several tools are used in processing data such as PySpark, Python, and R. Data Visualizations are completed using R, Tableau, and Q-GIS.

Team shoutouts:

“Engineering expertise…. instrumental in helping to deliver several time sensitive analyses to the FAA. She provided expert technical support, learned new skills quickly, and she delivered quality results. She greatly reduced the workload on our lead analyst and proved herself a valuable member of our team. Her contributions are greatly appreciated, and we look forward to working with her on future tasks.”

“Allison’s speed, accuracy, and due-diligence while conducting a quick-turnaround analysis in support of the FAA…. under a tight timeline, communicate findings and abnormalities within the data, and design first-of-its-kind logic using Big Data resources to create a repeatable, efficient, and streamlined process.'“
